Dog Camp
is a fun camp for 4-H youth who love dogs and everything
that goes along with them. It is a great inexpensive event for
4-Her’s and their dogs to participate in. This camp is open
to Maine 4-H participants of all ages regardless of prior
experience.
The
dates for the 2009 Maine 4-H Days Dog Camp are June 26, 27,
& 28 at the Windsor Fairgrounds in Windsor, Maine. The
events have not been confirmed yet so we encourage you to
check back for more information.
Check out
the Maine 4-H Days event
page for registration & schedule information.
Below are a few 2008 Dog
Camp pictures along with answers to frequently asked
questions about Dog Camp.

Frequently Asked Maine 4-H
Days Dog Camp Questions
Q: Where and when is the Maine 4-H Days Dog
Camp held?
A: 2009: Windsor Fairgrounds starting on Friday June 26th
and running through Sunday June 28th
Q:
How many dogs may I bring, how old do they have to be and
can I participate without a dog?
A: Participants may bring up to two of their own 4-H project
dogs that they have trained, as long as the dogs are
non-aggressive and each can be handled individually by the
4-Her. The dog’s age is not a factor in most workshops
and dogs are not necessary for all of the workshops. Usually
about half of the activities are hands on with dogs and the
other half are not. No aggressive dogs will be allowed to
participate at camp and dogs exhibiting signs of aggression
towards anyone may be asked to leave the activity or camp
for the safety of all.
Q:
If my dog is
well-behaved can it be off leash during camp?
A:
All dogs must
be on-leash at all times.
Q:
Who can participate in Dog Camp?
A: 4-H members from all project areas and of all ages are
welcome, although most workshops are designed for youth
between the ages of 10 and 18. Maine 4-H Days Dog Camp
is mainly for 4-H members from Maine but occasionally
invited guests from other states can attend.
Q:
Do I have to stay for the entire camp or can I come for one
day only or just during the daily activities?
A: Participants are strongly encouraged to stay for all
days and activities but may come for one day or stay
only during the day and not at night. We ask that you
specify whether or not you will be participating in all
activities and days or not on your registration packet.
Q:
What are some workshops that we have had at Dog Camp in the
past?
A: Some of the events that we have had in the past are
agility, rally-obedience, basic obedience, multi-level
showmanship, tracking, Bach Flower Remedies, dog rescues,
first aid, flyball, freestyle canine dancing and many more.
We also offer dog themed crafts and games at night.
Q:
What type of supervision is required?
A: All participants must have a chaperone.
Q:
If I come as a chaperone with a Dog Camp participant can I
bring my dog?
A: Chaperone’s may bring a dog as long as the dog is well
behaved, has updated rabies papers with them, is leashed and
does not interfere with the dogs signed up for camp.
