From the Soil Up
A Beginning Vegetable Gardener Course

Learn the basics of home vegetable gardening, from garden planning to pest management to harvest and storage in University of Maine Cooperative Extension's new 3-part From the Soil Up. The course will be held in locations across Maine (see below for dates and times, or contact your UMaine Extension county office to find the one nearest you by calling 1-800-287-0274).

The 3-part series includes:

  • Part I. Garden Planning
  • Part II. Garden Maintenance and Ecological Pest Management
  • Part III. Harvest and Storage of the Season’s Bounty.

During the series participants will have the opportunity to share experiences of how their gardens are doing and have their questions answered by the experts. Those who are interested will also have the opportunity to participate in an online community with people who are also enrolled in this series from various locations across Maine, to submit questions online, share experiences, solve problems, find new garden related resources, and learn additional information supplemental to the course.

Schedule

In Androscoggin and Sagadahoc Counties the series will be held on Monday evenings, April 27, June 22, and August 17 form 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the UMaine Extension office at 24 Main Street, Lisbon Falls.

For more information, please contact UMaine Extension in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc Counties at 1-800-287-1458 (in Maine) or 207-353-5550. The cost of the entire series will be $15. Pre-registration is required. Enrollment is limited to 25 participants.
 


In Kennebec County the first two sessions of the series will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, March 30, and Thursday, April 23, at the Christ Episcopal Church at 2 Dresden Avenue in Gardiner.

In Penobscot County the series will be held on Thursday evenings, April 23 and September 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the UMaine Extension office at 307 Maine Avenue, Bangor, and on Thursday June 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Rogers Farm in Old Town.

In Piscataquis County: From the Soil Up Webinar for beginning vegetable gardeners (registration is required)


In York County the series will be held on Monday evenings, April 27, June 22, and August 17 form 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the UMaine Extension office at 21 Bradeen Street, Springvale.
