Local school gardening programs include youth and volunteers

University of Maine Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers and 4-H youth in Knox-Lincoln counties are collaborating with local schools to create youth gardening programs. To date, five schools located in Edgecomb, Bristol, Warren, St. George, and Salt Bay have started gardening programs with the assistance of UMaine Extension Master Gardener Volunteers. In addition, UMaine Extension is collaborating with school nutrition services and school staff to increase the use of local foods in schools and provide healthy lifestyles education for students. 4-H is the youth development program of University of Maine Cooperative Extension.
