Strategies to grow, harvest and preserve your own food
*A locavore is someone who eats food grown and produced
locally.

Proceeds from this event benefit the new home of the
University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Cumberland
County at the Regional Learning Center at Tidewater Farm.
Thank you for your interest in this “growing” opportunity to
provide your family with locally grown produce.
This self-guided auto-tour includes a Northern loop through local gardens in Cumberland, Yarmouth, Falmouth
areas and a
Southern loop
through local gardens in Cape Elizabeth.
Adults $10, Seniors $8 and children are free
Cumberland County Master Food Preservers and Master
Gardeners present the first annual Backyard Locavore Tour.
Our goal is to provide strategies for growing, raising,
harvesting and preserving your own food. You will see
backyard examples of “how to do it yourself” vegetable and
herb gardening, raising chickens (for eggs and meat), bee
hives, fruit trees, composting and preserving food through
freezing, canning, drying and root cellaring. Back yard
Locavore Garden Tour includes both northern and southern
loops
through communities in Cumberland County.
