Vision for Tidewater Farm

Renewing and Reinventing
Imagine a place where Falmouth residents can buy locally grown produce, vegetables and fruit. A quiet farm refuge located only minutes away from downtown Portland, accessible by walking paths to a surrounding system of nature trails for walking, bird watching, and cross country skiing.

Our vision for Tidewater Farm is one that creates:

  • Public access to the farm and the waterfront.
  • Viable economic development in Cumberland County.
  • Resources for education and awareness of conservation and agricultural issues.
  • Meeting/event space for private and public functions, as well as art/cultural classes and displays.
  • Walking trails and open space for all to enjoy.

Picture a vibrant community meeting space where events such as farmers markets, seasonal festivals, receptions, art shows, and weddings can take place. A place where people of all ages can learn about sustainable agricultural practices, horticultural and gardening techniques, and livestock management – all in an environment of open meadows, orchards, barns, and salt marshes.

Envision a destination where local residents will be able to attend arts and cultural events such as concerts, performances, films, and public lectures. Imagine a place to participate in educational programs such as conferences, workshops, courses, tours, and demonstrations – all in a rural farm setting that evokes images of a simpler time, when agriculture played a pivotal role in the economic and social life of Maine.

This is the vision for the new Regional Learning Center at Tidewater Farm. It will serve as an agriculturally based training site to foster increased understanding and awareness of sustainable agricultural practices and methods, as well as to promote sustainable communities and living. Through the creation of a public-private partnership, and with the funding support of individuals, families, businesses, and foundations, the Campaign for Tidewater Farm will turn our vision into reality.
