Soil and Water Management

Potato growers are becoming increasingly interested in irrigation. However, potato growers frequently need moisture when surface waters supplies are limited. Groundwater systems can be quite expensive. So, it is very important to look at alternative methods of increasing plant available water without having to rely on irrigation. We are interested in evaluating compost and paper fiber mulches to increase soil moisture availability to potatoes.

Links to individual reports are at the left, as well as a link to our PowerPoint Presentation covering both research years, "Managing Soils for Healthy Plants."

Also available are our PowerPoint Presentations Nutrient Basic Soil Science and Nutrients: Secondary and Micro.
